Available Updates - Release Notes and NOT Upgrade to Latest

Post by gregbeyer »

Hello,

First, on the Check for Updates page, we're told there is a new release, and are offered to update to the latest. For most other software and OS updates, users are provided with release notes that detail what is included, known issues, bug fixes, new features, etc. This information would be very valuable to Nagios admins, to evaluate if/when they want to upgrade, risk assessment, all of the above. I request that Nagios XI release notes be linked when an update is offered. I have searched the nagios.com site for release notes, but find none.

Second, I generally do not want to be on the bleeding edge of any software upgrade. Experience has proven it prudent to wait a month or so after a release for issues to shake out. Therefore, could XI offer, on the Check for Updates page, not only  "Upgrade to Latest Version", but upgrade to the specific release we prefer, within reason Say the Latest, and three before that, as XI seems to be on a less than monthly upgrade cadence.

Thanks.

Hello @gregbeyer,

Thank you for reaching out!

To view information on the latest releases, you can check out the changelog here!

As far as being able to update to a specific release and not just the most recent available version, I can submit a feature request for just that. However, I am unable to give a time estimate on when said feature would be added and would recommend keeping an eye out on the changelog that I linked above!

If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to reach out!

Hi @gregbeyer,

Just wanted to offer you an additional workaround in case you weren't aware. It's a bit more work, but to upgrade to releases other than the latest version, you can go to our versioned release list, download the relevant tarball, and perform a manual upgrade from the terminal.

Thanks @ajcoll and @swolf for that feedback. I've bookmarked the changelog and will try to use that to make my upgrade decisions. Manual upgrade documentation looks pretty straightforward to swap out the URL for the tarball that I want, and run the upgrade script.

There seem to be issue codes with some items ( [GL:XI#1137] – DA). Could those be linked to see the details, see if it deals with an issue I may be having?

Thanks for that feature request ajcoll.

gregbeyer,

Unfortunately those codes you're seeing are linked to our internal issue tracking system; users are not able to view the details of the tickets.

Best Regards,
