I have a default service template that sets up our service checks appropriately so that the email alerts go to our team. Recently we had a request to setup alerting so that certain service checks will go to another team. No problem. I setup a new service template that only had one modification - under "Alert Settings", "Manage Contacts" was set to the other team's email. I applied that template along with our default template to a service but when that service went critical, only our team received the email alert. I spend a better part of today trying every combination on the service template and contact settings but no matter what I tried the email alerts only went out to our team.
I am missing something about applying multiple templates to a service check? My thoughts after today's experiment was to create a new template copies all settings from the default template and adds the other teams' email in the "Manage Contacts" area.
Template for email alerts not applying?
Re: Template for email alerts not applying?
Probably already tried but...
Apply the new template before or after the existing one.
Make sure the new contact is defined as a contact rather than just an email address.

Re: Template for email alerts not applying?
In the template that is being applied to add the other teams email, it is supplied as a contact. That was the oddity in my testing - after applying the new template - it would go to the that email but not the email defined in the default template. My assumption is that adding another template would be additive, no subtractive.

I found this but it was confusing...
