Nagios performance

We have a Nagios server (with 32 CPUs and 32 GB of RAM), running approximately 15,500 checks — 2,500 of which are passive checks received from another Nagios infrastructure.
The system is extremely slow when applying configuration changes, and the load check frequently triggers warnings. What optimizations can we implement to resolve these performance issues?

Hi
@occ,
Thanks for reaching out. Is 32 the correct # of CPUs?
This document may give you a good starting point.

I'm just curious.
What does top say when activating changes?
How many hosts are there?
I'm also curious how the services are set up. Are they generic whenever possible (many hosts attached to the same service), or unique for each host. For example a CPU usage check can be unique for each host or many hosts attached to the same service.
Maybe run the reconfigure script and see which parts are slow.
