Nagios contact_groups

Post by Ceefus »

Hello,

I am running Nagios Core 3.2.1 on CentOS 6.2 x86.

I have nearly 500 hosts being monitored ranging from desktops to firewalls to phone switches.

Right now I am having a problem isolating certain contact groups. For example I would like all of the phone system alerts to only go to the phone system admins. It does not make sense for my Windows or Linux admins to get alerts for a system they cannot work on.

I setup a contact group for the phone admins with only their specific accounts and changed the host config as well as the service configs to reflect:

contact_group Telco

I then restarted the Nagios service, but all users are still getting the alerts for this system.

Am I missing a top level config somewhere?

Thanks in advance!

I recently spoke at the Nagios conference where I did a talk on managing exactly this kind of scenario, unfortunately the video isn't up yet.

You are however 100% on the right track, are you able to post an example config for your host and host template as well as the Telco contact and contact group... It should be pretty obvious from there what we need to do to get your config working as expected.

Yes, Jsmurphy's video/presentation slides would be an excellent base for your project. They should be online soon.

The slide show/presentation is available here:
