I have a large number of host configured in the demo xi we are running and I would like to know if there is a quick way of setting up the parent child relasionship without having to go into every host.

I do not believe that there is a way to do this after you have created everything, it's recommended when setting up large installations to use templates for this so that you can easily "blanket" change your hosts and services. When entering the CCM you can click the template menu slider on the left and select either Host, or Service templates, from here you can create templates and change parent information within.
