Didn't get notification Email alert?!

Post by xpertech »

Our client said they didn't get notification Email alert, they had configured contact group and assigned to host monitoring "ping", but all the members of the contact group didn't get alert, what could be possible reason?

Attachment is the Event filter of two servers, actually it's one physical SUN server with "Zone", 172.17.1.164 is host, 172.17.1.175 is guest, when server down, the members of contact group got 172.17.1.164 Email alert but didn't get 172.17.1.175 Email alert? they had checked the config and seems ok.

It is hard to say without seeing all the related configs, but the log shows the notification was sent

Code: Select all

2013-02-07 15:44:31HOST NOTIFICATION: nagiosadmin;172.17.1.175;DOWN;xi_host_notification_handler;CRITICAL - 172.17.1.175: Host unreachable @ 172.17.1.84. rta nan, lost 100%
2013-02-07 15:44:31HOST NOTIFICATION: cosmos;172.17.1.175;DOWN;xi_host_notification_handler;CRITICAL - 172.17.1.175: Host unreachable @ 172.17.1.84. rta nan, lost 100%

If their NagiosXI upgrade failed before, and also ever rebuilt DB because something was wrong, could this be the possible reason that log shows the notification was sent but actually didn't send?

Can you outline what the error was when the upgrade failed, and what you did to rebuild the database??

In Admin -> Manage Email Settings are they using smtp or sendmail ?

Another possibility we haven't touched yet is the possibility of spam filtering catching the messages..

They use SMTP, but they said mail server didn't config filter, besides, there were other notifications successful sent, I also think it's not the spam filtering because not all notifications were missing.

The last last way we intend to do is to rebuild the whole monitoring system, but will cost a lot time.
We will first backup original NagiosXI configuration and then restore to a new clean NagiosXI VM which already installed and updated, could this new system still has same problem since the same configuration?

Possibly, can you post the config file for the 172.17.1.175 host

Are there other people in the admins contact group besides cosmos & nagiosadmin? As the logs show these users were notified.
