We are currently in the planning phase of a new Nagios XI implementation. We are considering two different models for assigning services to HostGroups. One model would assign services to a service template, and then assign a hostgroup to the service template. The second model would assign services to a service template, and then assign a hostgroup to the service itself. Is there a prevailing methodology within the XI community? Are there any long term pitfalls to either method that we may be missing? Any thoughts on the topic would be appreciated.
thank you

Re: Best Practice for Assigning Services to Hostgroups
I would create a service template with all the specs you need.
Then create a service, attach the template to the service and add hostgroups to the service. Also, add contact groups to the service.
This way, if you need to make changes on for the service according to the hostgroups assigned you can do it at the service level and the template can remain the same for multiple services.
