SMS notifications with Nagios XI
I have seen several posts referring to the MultiTech iSMS device to use for sending notifications via SMS. I purchased one of these devices only to learn that it requires a 2G GSM network. There is only one carrier in my area that has a 2G network and signal strength is not going to be sufficient in my building. Is anyone using a similar device that works on a 3G network?

Are you in the US? AT&T and T-Mobile sims should work fine. At current job I have 2 AT&T ones in it and works fine with included antennas. At my old job we had to use a booster to get out of the datacenter.

Yes, I'm in Bloomington, MN. I brought it to an AT&T store and they put in an active SIM and it had no signal. Is there something more we should have configured?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: SMS notifications with Nagios XI
Could the device be at fault? We don't directly support the device itself, simply the pairing of it and XI, if it's having signal issues I'd definitely give multitech a call / post and see if they've seen this problem before. We will do what we can!

Which device is this, the 1, 4 or 8 port? If the 4 or 8, you had an antenna screwed in, right?billslott wrote:Yes, I'm in Bloomington, MN. I brought it to an AT&T store and they put in an active SIM and it had no signal. Is there something more we should have configured?

You played around with the sim, wiggling it around? LOL
Also, it needs to be a GSM sim, so 3G should work fine but not 4G.

But bandit posted here so I should be safe.. anyway..
What about CDMA Verizon device? Can that be set up to work with Nagios XI or does it have to be GSM?

You're so mean! And no, not the multitech devices, they are GSM only.krobertson71 wrote:Stupid question.....

Re: SMS notifications with Nagios XI
This is the 1 port device and yes, I did have the antenna attached. The AT&T support person supplied the active SIM. I didn't ask if it was 3G or 4G so that might be the issue if it was 4G. I am in contact with Multi Tech support also. I will see what they say.
Thanks!
Thanks!
