Also, post the entire nrpe.cfg and common.cfg file.
I restart xinetd on the 192.168.1.52 box

Can you edit /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg from 192.168.1.52

In this section:

Code: Select all

#include_dir=<somedirectory>
#include_dir=<someotherdirectory>
Add:

Code: Select all

include_dir=/usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe
Remove these from the bottom of the file as they are in common.cfg

Code: Select all

command[check_yum]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_yum $ARG1$
command[check_uptime]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_uptime
Save the file
Then:

Code: Select all

service xinetd stop
killall -9 xinetd
service xinetd start
Does it work now?

Odd that the configuration isn't saving. Did you restart xinetd after changing the nrpe.cfg?

Can you post the output of the following -

Code: Select all

netstat -nap|grep :5666

I am not sure what you mean that the configuration isn't saving. Yes I restarted the xinetd after making the changes. Also for ease of reading I took out all of the comments. I made a backup before I did that.

From 192.168.1.52

It's not parsing the directory that has your common.cfg.

Can you check the permissions of the directory with ls -l /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe/ and post the output back here?

If those look right, then the next step is to take out this line -

Code: Select all

include_dir=/usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe
and replace it with -

Code: Select all

include=/usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe/common.cfg
Restart xinetd and try again.

command[check_zombie_procs]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -w 5 -c 10 -s Z
command[check_total_procs]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -w 150 -c 200
Restarted xinetd

I do not know if this helps but for example, check_total_procs works, however if I change the -wand the -cit does not change on my monitoring server. Like it is pulling from somewhere else.

Same issue, sorry :cry:

I hope this is what you are asking for. Thank you.

Code: Select all

# default: on
# description: NRPE (Nagios Remote Plugin Executor)
service nrpe
{
        flags           = REUSE
        socket_type     = stream
        port            = 5666
        wait            = no
        user            = nagios
        group           = nagios
        server          = /usr/local/nagios/bin/nrpe
        server_args     = -c /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg --inetd
        log_on_failure  += USERID
        disable         = no
        only_from       = 127.0.0.1,localhost,192.168.1.54
}
Additionally these lines are in my /etc/services

Code: Select all

# Nagios services
nrpe    5666/tcp
nsca    5667/tcp
ndo2db  5668/tcp

Code: Select all

command[check_total_procs]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -w 150 -c 200
This shouldn't change. These are hardcoded.

You could change it to:

Code: Select all

command[check_total_procs]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -w $ARG1$ -c $ARG2$
and then it would change after an xinetd reload I'll bet.
