Okay, so I figured it out... I was using the incorrect service name when I was was using the gui interface. I went back into the service check config and used the following:
check_xi_service_nsclient!!SERVICESTATE!-l 'service here' -d SHOWALL
This will monitor the service provided that you use the correct service name where it states service here. Using single quotes allows you to add service names with spaces.
