Hi,
I have just installed nagiosXI and added hosts for monitoring.
I could test "email send" notification. But when host went down, the email is not being sent to the configured email IDs.
I have checked with different email IDs, but no luck.
Could anybody suggest me the possible reason and solution please.
Regards,
sandip

Notification Problem and Parenting Questions
Hello,
I am seeing alerts being sent out for hosts that look like this:
** PROBLEM Host Alert: buf_rrecc.domain.com is DOWN **
Then another Alert that looks like this follows:
** PROBLEM Service Alert: buf_rrecc.domain.com/$ is $ **
My question is why the variable is shown instead of the service and better yet since this service is on the host, should it not be sending an alert at all?
I'd like to know if this is normal or not, because I have found parenting( for routers/switches and such) but i have not found a way to parent the service to the host, is it automatic when you run the wizard that the service is parented to the host or not?

Re: Notification Problem and Parenting Questions
I'd wonder if your just hitting the nagiosadmin template being set to generic_contact instead of to xi_contact?

Re: Sending notifications emails problem
Try this:
Go into the Core Config Manager, under Alerting > Contacts. Edit the nagiosadmin contact (which I assume is you). Under Misc Settings > Additional Templates, remove generic-contact and insert xi_contact_generic. Save and Apply Configuration.

Mail notification not possible and database error?
we currently evaluate the 60 days test version of Nagios XI. Unfortunetaley in our setup occure some bugs which need to be solved.
The first problem is that it seems not to be possible changing the "Administrator Email Address" in the "Manage System Config" menu. After a click on "Update Settings" it first seems that everything is ok. The message "Settings Updated." is displayed. But if we reload the "Manage System Config" menu in the field "Administrator Email Address" root@localhost is shown again.
The second thing is, that no E-Mails are sent out by Nagios XI if a service status changes its state between warning-, critical- or ok-state. The function "Send Test Notifications" sends out the test-messages perfectly, though, so the serverside E-Mail-configuration itself seems to be setup correctly.
We used the virtual appliance of Nagios XI and converted it to run on our VMWare ESX cluster as described on your site.
