I made this thing a while back:
https://github.com/mcapra/nagios-nlsexport
It's a bit complicated if you aren't comfortable with Elasticsearch queries, though. Or if you just want everything from a single day's index, or a certain type of events from X days indices, you can skip the query part. If you're running it from the NLS machine itself, you can just use localhost for the -host argument.
If it breaks or you're not sure how to do something with it, best to post on the GitHub page.
How to export query results to a text file?

I'd still like to see an "export" button that includes at least a CSV option. The data is already there. I don't know why the button is not.

This is still an open feature request, by which I mean it has not been denied. Trevor is out until Tuesday, and he'll be catching up then. Perhaps checking on this on Wednesday next week. I know Trevor has pushed the devs on this particular issue in the past.

I know he has, too. And I know where he is. And I know his cell phone number.
I just want to be on record that it's been a year with no word about this particular improvement.

@onthax, anyone else...let us know if you are still interested in this feature.

@dwhitfield
Yes, still need this feature.
currently we store 2 copies of all logs so we can give vendors logs for their product.

Also would like this feature. We installed a PoC of NLS back in April and the lack of this feature was a show-stopper. Just checked again and downloaded a current version and was somewhat dismayed that it is still the same version.
The product roadmap says NLS v2 is due Q4 of this year. Unfortunately, there is no mention of this feature on that list. Is this feature still a priority?
I realize that data can be exported via methods mentioned above, but that is not feasible for most of the people that will be using the portal.
Just need a button that prompts to download a CSV with the syslog data.

Agreed. This post was originally opened in August of 2015. 2015! That's over two years ago. I know that there's been a lot of development work on other projects within Nagios, but as @jkatz said, a simple "export CSV" button would solve 99% of everyone's requests for this feature.

I put this on the roadmap and should be included when 2.0.0 is released.eloyd wrote:Agreed. This post was originally opened in August of 2015. 2015! That's over two years ago.
