Migarate NagiosXI from Vmware to Physical Hardware

Post by aijazahmedece »

Hi,

I' am running NagiosXI in VMware in test environment where i've added almost all servers from my data center successfully. Taking into consideration that for SMS alerting i cannot directly connect my modem / SMS device via serial port directly in this case, i want to move my configuration to a separate physical hardware.

I've installed NagiosXI manually on Centos 5.4 conveniently (thanks God!!!) on a separate physical machine. All i want is to move my configuration from Test VMware machine to this new physical hardware (Just to avoid re-doing all the tasks of adding servers/services again for 25+ servers)

I also want to know if it is going to effect licensing and support provided. Though i've decided to buy the license after getting the above things clear.

Plz help me for the above and consider the fact that i am new to NagiosXI but still loves my old nagios 2.6 that i was using earlier :!: .

You should be able to export your configuration from the VMware instance and then import it to the physical instance, using these two guides:
http://library.nagios.com/library/produ ... n-database
http://library.nagios.com/library/produ ... es-into-xi

This shouldn't affect licensing, providing you stop using one after you start using the other, as normal with such things.

(It's also possible to convert entire VMware machines to physical hardware if you ever wanted to try that in the future, although we don't have instructions for that yet.)
