Possible Configuration Bug on NagiosXI 5.4.12?

Post by IT-OPS-SYS »

I recently upgraded our NagiosXI installation to version 5.4.12 and noticed an issue with excluding a particular service check on hostgroups. In prior versions we would exclude groups of servers such as Netback in the embedded image from an Anti-Virus check by adding the host-group to the check and checking the check box with an exclamation mark next to the group for the exclusion. I attempted to add another group to be excluded for our backup solution and noticed that the functionality is missing. If the checkbox was present, every group but the Windows Servers would be checked. If I edit the config file manually I can exclude the group but if the XI interface is restarted again by another admin, the change is lost. I also verified on a vanilla test sever that is on 5.4.12 that has similar issue. Is this a know issue and what is the correct method of manually editing the config file to make the needed change persistent as workaround? Thanks

I haven't come across this yet but only tried it on a new upgrade 5.4.12. Mine shows the option though?

Then again, mine literally has no hosts. I will try this on a larger setup.

As for your second question, yes edits to the config files will be lost whenever the CCM is restarted.

Here's our documentation for setting it inside the static directory in order have the Core engine process the config.

Code: Select all

/usr/local/nagios/etc/static/

Let me know if this helps!

I have been troubleshooting the issue further. It appears that if I install from scratch no matter what version, the issue is not present. However if I restore from a backup the issue is present where the checkbox is missing. I'm not sure when the issue started but I assume it began when upgraded to 5.4.12.

I have confirmed this and created a bug report. Thanks!

Although, I couldn't confirm this from 5.4.11 clean install?

What version did you upgrade from?

Awesome, glad it is not just me. I upgraded from 5.4.11 to 5.4.12. When I restored the backup on 5.4.11 I had the same issue but I assume this is due to the backup being taken when the system was at 5.4.12. The downgrade was only temporary as I have restored the VM snapshot to its original configuration.

Thanks for verifying!

Did you have any more questions or are we okay to lock this up?

You're welcome and yes you can. Do you have estimated timetable on the next patch?

Sounds good. As of now, there is no ETA. We are working on XI 5.5, and this bug may be fixed in that release.

We won't know until we start testing that version for this bug either. So I would say, waiting for 5.5 is best.
