Email alerts won't stop after upgrade

Was previously running Nagios XI 2014R2.6 and just upgraded to Nagios XI 5.5.8 and had a problem with our NRPE checks reporting "Could not construct return packet in NRPE handler check client side alerts" and found out that -2 had to be added to the command with the new version. Have most of those fixed and all checks are green looking at the web interface but we are still getting constant alerts for the error we had right after the upgrade. We had about 3000 unhandled issues now down to 172 so I'm wondering if it's just going to take time to clear out but it's been over an hour now. I ran the mailq command and it was empty. Fairly new to our environment and I just took over the reigns since our old admin left so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep please close this, it wasn't opened right away since it needed approval so was a bit delayed.
