Okay so after all that work it is basically telling you that you have no contact group defined yet which is titled "Admins," and that a large handful of Hosts do not have any services attached to them. Does this coincide with how they are supposed to be set up? Those are the only error's I see.

Thanks for your help thus far! I'm not experienced at all with Nagios, so thank you. I added the admins & root contacts to the contactgroups.cfg file. Now, when I restart, I get that weird error again about End of File.... See below. Any suggestions on how to get around this?

The above command is trying to execute the cfg file as though it was a binary, which it is not, just text. Being that you are on Ubuntu, you should be able to start\stop\restart nagios using the service command or as you did to test the config with nagios3. Please try the below command and let us know how it works!

The no lock file just indicates that it was not started when attempting to stop nagios.

Ok, was able to get nagios started successfully, however, now I'm trying to troubleshoot my config files by enabling one at a time. I've enabled the services.cfg.

I'm now having trouble figuring out where/how to track down my newest error. Is it 'check_dummy' the config has a problem with... if so how do I correct it? Thanks!

I do see a dummy.cfg that is being imported but not a commands.cfg, that normally comes with the nagios samples. Try including the commands.cfg file and run verify again with.

nagios3 -v /etc/nagios3/nagios.cfg

The check_dummy command is defined within the commands.cfg file. You can also strip it out into its own file and just import that if you do not want any other commands contained within the original cfg.

Ok, so that worked. Also had to repair several duplicate config files. Nagios now boots up. But when i go to one of our tempurature/humidity monitoring devices withing the Nagios web gui, it says the following the following error (see below). I'm wondering if nrpe is installed correctly.... Any thoughts? I have several other similar errors
