Ack alert by email

when I google search , i find other people's problems but no directions
is it possible to set up XI to accept replies to alerts with "ack"

I believe what you are looking for is described in the document below:

With inbound emails, you could reply with "ack", and acknowledge the problem. Is this what you were looking for?

looks like it, by why can't it query the Nagios server sendmail account?
I'll have to set up imap or popmail on the server?

Incoming email requires setup - so no, it can't read from the sendmail account, it requires imap or popmail.
