"Update in progress. Please wait. Update may take a few minutes" All the time

Please follow the article below to clear the "Upgrade in progress" message and let me know if the issue is resolved.

If the upgrade was not successful, try logging into the terminal, run the following commands to upgrade manually:

rm -rf nagiosxi xi*.tar.gz
wget http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagiosxi/xi-latest.tar.gz
tar xzf xi-latest.tar.gz
cd nagiosxi
./upgrade

Sorry about the inconvenience this is causing you. It's a known issue and not easily repeatable. We are planning to re-work the GUI upgrade in Nagios XI 5.7 to correct this. In the meantime, please use the manual upgrade on your system.
